Ad quem locum Servius, Spadices, inquit, phoeniciatos vocant, id est, professos myrteos, ipsi sunt badii. Nempe ςπάδιξ, ut habet Pollux, est ῤάβδος φοίνικος, et Gellius, avulsus a palma termes cum fructu: inde spadix et phoeniciatus et phoeniceus color in equo. Idem Gellius l. 2. c. 26. Rutilus et spadix phoenicei συνώνυμα, exuberantiam splendoremque significant ruboris, quales sunt fructus palmae arboris nondum Sole incocti, unde spadicis et phoenicei nomen est. Ita in curulî certamine Il. ψ. insignis equus describitur v. 454.
